The 2003 FORD WORLD CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held from Saturday April 5th, 2003 to Sunday April 13th, 2003 at the Winnipeg Arena, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Opening Ceremonies will take place at the Winnipeg Arena on Friday April 4th, 2003. 10 Men's and 10 Women's teams from all over the globe will represent their country at this major curling event. Winnipeg last hosted the World Curling Championships in 1991 and hosted the Brier, The Canadian Men's Curling Championship, in 1998. In addition Brandon, Manitoba hosted the 1995 World Championships. This event is expected to attract a cumulative audience of approximately 175,000 over 25 draws. Many of the visitors to this event will be from the United States and Europe as well as other countries that could be represented at the Championship. In the past teams have been represented by such countries as Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Curling
is a very popular sport in Canada. More than 1.2 million Canadians participate
in the sport annually at over 1,250 curling clubs throughout the country.
In addition 3.4 million Canadians watch curling each winter on television. The economic impact on Winnipeg and Manitoba is estimated to be in excess of $12,000,000.00. Between 800-1000 volunteers will be required to organize and host the event. The host committee anticipates strong corporate support at the local and national level. Our goal is to secure $1,000,000.00 in corporate support. The
