City

Single
Day Ticket Packages Availability and Entertainment Announced for the Nine-Day
Event
The
City of Winnipeg and Province of Manitoba are providing $400,000 towards
the 2003 Ford World Curling Championships
to be held at the Winnipeg
Arena April 5 -13, 2003.
"More
Manitobans participate in curling than any other single sporting activity
in the province. Manitoba has long been recognized as the hub of international
curling," said Premier Gary Doer. "Our support of the 2003 Ford
World Curling Championships not only provides a remarkable sporting event
for all Manitobans, it also puts an international spotlight on us and
leaves another real and lasting legacy we can all be proud of."
The
City will contribute more than $200,000 to the event --including transit
services. This will be the third time the World Curling Championships
have been hosted in Winnipeg. Manitoba last hosted the event in 1995 in
Brandon.
"Curling
is in the blood of most Winnipeggers. Just look at the number of curling
champions who come from Winnipeg. We welcome the opportunity to host and
take on the best curlers in the world. May the best rock win!" said
Mayor Glen Murray.
